DNA methylation is a fundamental process in DNA replication, particularly for the synthesis of gametes, and requires a regular and highly available supply of B vitamins. Direct supplementation with 5-methyltetrahydrofolate
(5 MTHF) is much more efficient than simply vitamin B9, as it is directly active in maintaining homocysteine balance (folate cycle), which is important for cardiovascular health, as well as for pregnant women.
