How to use it
By oral intake
In which cases? Oral use is generally used in adults and recommended for digestive comfort and as a general cleanser. This route of absorption is contraindicated in case of gastritis, peptic ulcer, oesophageal reflux. Incompatibility possible with some treatments. Taking a medication should be 2 to 3 hours away. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
How? Essential oils should never be pure in the mouth. They are not soluble in water. Take them preferably in a teaspoon of cooking oil (olive, sunflower ...) or tincture (in pharmacy). In some cases, it is recommended to put the drops on a piece of sugar or breadcrumbs; then drink a glass of water (lukewarm if possible).
By cutaneous application
Essential oils easily cross the skin layers to reach the bloodstream. Their action is local or general. Some may be irritating and even dermocaustic: see the "precautions" sections of the guide. In all cases, avoid sensitive areas and mucous membranes.
In which cases? The cutaneous application is suitable in many situations. It offers very pleasant possibilities for body and cosmetic treatments.
How? HE is used most often in dilution in a vegetable oil. You will apply them in massage, exceptionally in friction, either near the concerned zone, or on a nervous center (solar plexus, vertebral column ...), or on a well vascularized area: wrist, fold of the elbow or the knee, plant of feet ...
In atmospheric diffusion
Some HEs are used in a cold fogging electric diffuser. This technique is the most effective for ensuring the diffusion of essential oils. Without being heated, the EOs are projected in tiny droplets and are dispersed in the atmosphere (surface of about 20 to 100 m 2 ). In this mode of use, most HEs are for adults only; others are only indicated to children over 7 years old.
In which cases? Atmospheric diffusion is particularly suitable for HE with a sanitizing or relaxing purpose. This is the ideal way to clean up living rooms ... and to relax!
How? Broadcasting is never done continuously. Recommended rhythm:
- in an empty room, 15 to 20 minutes two to three times a day;
- in a busy room, 5 to 10 minutes every hour or every two hours.
Quantity for 24 hours: 20 to 30 drops (depending on the flow of the device).
Good to know: some HE exhaling too strong smell (risk of headaches), are to diffuse in moderation, or mixed with another.
Practical advice: do not forget to regularly clean the diffuser (risk of clogging of the nozzles).
In olfactory atmosphere
Pure HEs are also used for the pleasure associated with their scent. In a controlled gentle heat electric diffuser, the molecules are not altered by inadvertent heating and retain all their olfactory qualities.
In this mode of use, HE can be used in the presence of children over 7 years.
In which cases? This is the way to pleasantly perfume your home.
How? Never practice continuously. Recommended rhythm in a room: 30 minutes, two to three times a day.
Quantity per sequence: 5 to 10 drops.
Practical tip: do not leave an HE for several days in the aroma diffuser because it could oxidize in contact with the air.
Inhaled
Aromatic molecules penetrate easily through the capillaries of the nasal mucosa; they intervene by the olfactory way. Inhalation wet is used in particular for the comfort of the upper airways. This route is not recommended for a child under 12, as well as in case of asthma, rosacea, facial irritation.
In which cases? Mainly for respiratory well-being and relaxation.
- Inhalation wet: pour boiling water in a bowl, or better in an inhaler, adding 1 or 2 drops of HE; breathe the steam for 5 minutes, closing the eyes.
- Inhalation dry: pour a few drops on a tissue and place it under the nose (do not use it then to blow your nose or wipe your eyes).
In a facial sauna
For facials (especially in case of oily skin), proceed as for a wet inhalation, above a bowl of hot water.
No use in pregnant women or nursing
No use in children under 7 years without medical advice
No use in case of epilepsy, allergy to aromatic molecules
Elderly: on medical advice

Do not apply near eyes, ears or nose (unless otherwise stated)
