How to use it
Follow these cleaning recommendations.
Check the feeding bottle before each use and pull in several directions on the teat and the various parts. Replace the feeding bottle or teat at the first sign of damage or wear. Plastic feeding bottles and components are weakened by freezing and risk breaking if dropped. Même, feeding bottles and components can be damaged by mishandling, for example by being dropped, over-tightened or tipped over. Handle bottles and components with care. Do not use breast milk if bottles or components are damaged. This product must always be used under adult supervision. Keep all unused parts out of the reach of Children. Never use a bottle teat as a soother. Continuous and prolonged suckling of liquids can lead to tooth decay. Always check the temperature of the food before feeding your Children. Do not heat breast milk in a microwave oven; this could lead to inhomogeneous heating and your baby could get burnt
Compositions & ingredients
The composition may be subject to variations, so we advise you to always check the list on the purchased product.
The choice of bottle teat can have a significant impact on your baby's well-being and comfort. A number of factors need to be taken into account to ensure that the teat is adapted to your Children's specific needs. The first consideration is the material from which the teat is made. Latex teats are soft and flexible, but tend to wear out more quickly. Silicone teats, on the other hand, are more durable and resistant to odours and stains, but can be less flexible.
The flow rate of the teat is another key consideration. Teats are generally available in different flow rates, adapted to Baby's age and feeding needs. A flow rate that is too fast can lead to problems with regurgitation or choking, while one that is too slow can make feeding frustrating and exhausting for the baby. It's best to choose a teat that matches your Children's natural sucking rhythm. Shape is also an important consideration. Some teats are designed to mimic the shape of a mother's nipple, which can improve the transition from milk feeding to bottle feeding. Others may have orthodontic shapes to support Children's healthy oral development. So the choice of shape will largely depend on your Baby's preferences and your feeding goals.
You should also be aware of your Children's specific needs. Some babies have special needs, such as sensitivity to colic or difficulty adapting to a bottle after milk feeding. In such cases, specialised teats may be required. For parents looking for an innovative solution that closely resembles the natural experience of milk feeding, Medela's Calma range deserves a special mention. This range has been designed to simulate a baby's natural sucking behaviour at the breast, making the transition from breastfeeding to bottle-feeding easier. The Calm teats allow baby to control the flow of milk, reducing the risk of regurgitation and colic. What's more, the unique design of this range encourages babies to use the same tongue and jaw movements they would use when Milk feeding, which can be particularly beneficial for mothers who alternate between bottle and breastfeeding.

GreatMy baby is EBF, I wanted to introduce bottles of expressed milk so I could catch a bit of a break but was worried about hindering breastfeeding so came accross this bottle. We introduced it when she was 6 months old, the first time was a struggle as expected, we had to persevere but after 30-45 minutes of trying she finally understood what we wanted her to do and took to it. She is now 4 months old, has a bottle every other day, takes it really well and her latch has never been affected. Great product, thank you medela!

Very differentUnfortunately my baby refuses bottles, she did learn how to use this fairly quickly and I like that it didn’t leak milk into her mouth while she was learning. However we’ve had to give up with it as she’s never taken to it.

A bottle is a bottleI bought four of these bottles and used them for 6 months, switching between breast and bottle. The technology sounds impressing, but I don't think it makes a significant difference. It all boils down to how you feed with the bottle, e.g. using slow bottle feeding technique. The long stiff teat causes the baby to get used to an exaggerated stimulation to start feeding, making the baby impatient after a while when breastfeeding. Also, the patent is time consuming to clean.
The advertising claims that "your baby can maintain their natural sucking behaviour"(misspelled), this is just not true. No bottle can mimic what happens when a child feeds from a breast. That's because two different techniques are required to drink from a bottle vs breast. A bottle can also never behave like a breast, or be shaped exactly like a breast.
Other than that, the quality of the bottle is good. If you want it, go get it. But don't expect it to be a substitute for your tatas.

Helped support establishing latch with mum.Mum and baby were working very hard to establish a good latch and we were topping up with bottles after 20min of trying with mum. Me (dad) gave top up’s to try best avoid confusion but felt the bottles we originally had (TT slowest teat) were not encouraging baby to work for milk and giving wind. I read some articles from Medela and it was clear that the company is geared up to support breastfeeding, we’d also used the pumps in hospital; so I looked at the products they had available and found the Calma teat. It did and is still doing exactly what it says on the tin.
It has encouraged baby to actively feed - suckle and work (not too hard) for his milk, whilst also reducing the amount of wind he has. But the best bit is that not long after using the Calma, baby started to feed better with mum. This isn’t solely down to the Calma as mums work so hard - positioning, managing flailing hands, being sore, a million different bits of advice being offered, expressing; all whilst being tired, hungry and recovering - but it did help and also, for what it’s worth, helped me as a dad give a bottle without feeling guilt or worry that I was detracting away from my wife’s efforts to establish breastfeeding.
Practicalities - it’s a well engineered product and the design is in 3 pieces plus a cover for travel and a cap can be used to cover the bottom when not on a bottle. The design means a little more faff to clean but is far outweighed by the benefits of the design.
One thing I’ve noticed is I think when warming a bottle up with a Calma on, I find after warming, it’s worth unscrewing the teat off and then back on again to release some air. Otherwise when squeezing to test milk temp on wrist you get a fast flow.
Medela customer service for pump hire have been good too.

Great bottleThis bottle feels great to hold and looks fab, just such a shame that my baby doesn't like the teat. He is new to bottles after exclusively breastfeeding for 2 months so I am going to keep trying as he's not particularly keen on other brands either at the moment and I do feel like they need to understand how to use them before they'll take this teat. Super easy to clean as it all comes apart and easy to store as the bottles so nice and compact.

Baby likes itI bought the Calma bottle to support our breastfeeding journey and try and avoid teet/nipple confusion. Baby took to it fairly quickly and wolfs down the expressed milk. I am quite sure that his latch is similar to that when on the breast. However due to the price I am still using other bottles for the formula milk we use, I would have liked to have matching bottles.

Interesting shape, but not good for tongue tie!I bought this to try to help with my son's wind issues when feeding from a bottle. It's a really cleverly designed piece of equipment, and I can see how it would work great for other combo fed babies - however, my son had a tongue tie, so feeding from this was exhausting compared to other shaped teats on the market. He had the same issues that he was having at my breast - a professional confirmed he was having a lot of difficulty, getting tired and burning too many calories when he was drinking due to the tongue tie, so this defeated the object of buying it.
Once his mouth has healed and he has relearned how to latch and suck correctly, I'll definitely try the teat again.
Cleaning and sterilising the teat is a pain as it's hard to put it together without touching any of the inner parts, it's made of several items and they can take too long to dry after sterilising. If I was exclusively pumping I would buy several of these so I always have one clean, but it doesn't feel like it's worth the cost and effort for the odd top up feed.

Can we use the Calma teat and cap of the bottle with other bottles ?

Can these bottles be sterilised in a steam steriliser (instead of boiling or microwaving)?

Hello, are the top parts only - the ring with the teats suitable for any Medela bottles as I have these so wouldn’t like to purchase yet another bottle.
